When summer comes around we usually think of the fun times to be shared with our loved ones. The most beautiful memories are shared with the most beautiful people in our lives with the sun’s warm presence.
With the sun’s appearance, one must dress accordingly in order to keep cool (if they want to that is). The best fabrics to wear during the excess heat is ones with natural fibers. Think cotton, silk, linen, hemp etc I typically stick with cotton and linen, as I like them best. However, the best natural fiber to wear during the summer is actually silk. It regulates your body temperature, repels water, and has antimicrobial properties. Though, as many know, silk is a very controversial fabric due to the nature of the production involving the mistreatment of silkworms. So if that isn’t your cup of tea, then thankfully there are many more natural fabric options.
For a Sunday brunch outing, I decided to pull out my Banana Republic corset top and skirt to wear. I had seen these two garments paired together as a sold separately set on their E-commerce website in spring of this year. I had been looking for a full skirt in cotton fabric for quite some time, but had never found one I liked that was perfect to me and also wasn’t sheer. Thankfully I had stumbled upon this look during Banana Republic’s 40% off Friends and Family Event so I bought them for a great price AND I bought the black corset top and black skirt versions as well.
In current times, the cost of natural fiber garments are just too high for women’s ready-to-wear. I would highly recommend waiting for a good sale price for some classic staple pieces that will last you many years to come. It is definitely a strategy of mine!
