CHANGING MY OUTLOOK ON FASHION AND BLOGGING

Tweed, denim, and faux fur!

Last summer I did a whole purge for my personal spaces at home. I reorganized my office, bathroom, and bedroom. You know the kind of purge I’m talking about too — The kind where you start cleaning and organizing and just can’t stop until everything is redone to make you feel like you have a whole new life.

I went the whole nine yards — I even bought organizers to section parts of all my drawers. Everything finally looks neat and easy to reach for — Something I could never attain in the past because like in true artist fashion, I would disorganize every drawer eventually while searching for what I need. I was able to finish this all in 2 months thanks to The Container Store and using AfterPay (not an ad, just being honest). Like my mother always tells me: when you organize your environment, you are organizing your brain. It’s been about 6 months since my organization spree and everything is still neat and organized so I am very pleased. I should have organized like this sooner!

This organization frenzy made me realize I really needed to change my outlook on shopping for fashion once I finished organizing my closet. I donated every garment/accessory/shoes I no longer used, and never wore. I decided I needed to have a closet full of clothing that I actually wanted to wear and would always reach for. Now that everything is organized and I can see everything I have, I have no excuse to indulge in impulse buying anymore. I now have 3 rules for buying fashion:

  1. It must be something I absolutely need/don’t have.
  2. It has to have multiple uses with my wardrobe.
  3. The items must be of quality to last.

With these three rules, it immediately eliminated a lot of fashion items I had my eye on. When you stop and think about it, it really makes sense; don’t buy unless you need to! I can’t really say it’s a minimalist view point because it is still is flat out over consumption. But it’s a step better, right? After all, fashion is about over consumption by consuming the ever changing trends that pop up. But at what point will we all say that maybe instead of following trends, we should just wear what we like? Developing our own style will help with a lower shopping bill immensely as well.

I now know exactly what is lacking in my wardrobe and will take the steps to slowly fill those gaps to my liking. Everything else is just extra, and with these times, I’m only focused on necessity.

The next thing I’m changing is how I blog. I’m shifting more of my focus to fashion design behind the scenes since that has always been my number 1 priority. I will still have styling outfit posts, but I won’t be making long posts. It is just too time consuming at this point in my life. From this point on, I will just write about whatever I feel like writing and include fashion looks/outfit details in said posts. It’s a swift change, but necessary for me to be able to have more balance in my life.

Great rules to live by. Being organized really just changes your mood and the energy of a room. Plus clutter always attracts dust, bugs and whatnot. Look forward to seeing what comes next

I love this! As someone who struggles to keep things organized, I have noticed that when things are neat, organized, and clean, it just brings a different mood to the room! Like a positive vibe and energy ☺️ Also our moms think the same 😂 maybe that’s why the four of us always have fun together! 🥰

I love the rules! My mom has always told me to clean my area so I can focus better. It’s funny how a simple clean up can refresh your mind! Since my teens, I have always cleaned out my closet at least once a year. Thank you for reminding me to clean my office now 😛
