IT’S OK TO BE OPEN TO FASHION TRENDS

I was just recounting this story to my cousin awhile ago when I decided to make a blog post about this subject (thank you, David)!

When I was a child I use to always play video games with my brothers. This went way into my teenage years. I was a big fan of multiplayer games because it allowed me to have so much fun and bond with them. We would make jokes for hours, it is one of my memorable memories from my childhood. Since we always played for hours nonstop, we would sometimes change things up in certain games. Such as the 007 James Bond shooter games. We would make up random games within the game, such as we couldn’t use any guns to kill each other, so instead we would have to hit each other with our elbows (a move in the game where if you run out of ammo, you would usually resort to this to defend yourself). Or, another fun game where we would try to have a certain room be the “prime real estate” spot, so we would always try to take that area as our territory. We would also proceed to put mines around the entrances to keep each other away. And then the last game within a game, which I started myself: I would hide crouching in a chandelier and snipe my brothers from all around the arena. They both got so frustrated. I had over 50 confirmed scope kills in that game before my older brother found where my character was hiding and then went in for the kill.

The point of this story is to not take things always seriously, and to sometimes just be silly and have fun. When you follow your own thoughts and desires, you don’t care how others view it. The best part of life is when you get to be yourself.

And that’s why it’s fun to sometimes be silly and just go with the flow in fashion. Now, “silly” to you and me might mean something different, and that’s okay. We all have our preconceived notions in this experience called life. For me, a lot of fashion trends don’t mesh well with me. It’s normal that not every fashion trend will resonate with a person. But, just because something seems silly or strange to you the first moment you experience it, doesn’t mean it isn’t worth further investigation of seeing if you actually in the end might like it.

A staple fashion trend worldwide for women is the use of the New York cap with a minimalism look. You’ll find fashionistas wearing this hat in not just New York, but all around the USA, and even in Europe. I have known about this trend for many years (as well as the trend with the LA hat), but I just couldn’t get behind it, until last month. I was shopping in Aritzia at my local mall and I saw the NY, and LA hats for sale and I felt a pull. But, I wasn’t entirely sold. I actually had my heart set on buying either a Celine or Gucci ball cap at that time. But alas, it just wasn’t in my budget to spend $500-600 dollars on a hat last month and this month as well (lol, first world problems). So I finally caved in and bought one of these state hats. And now, I truly understood the hype behind wearing this hat. Which goes back to my initial point. Don’t take yourself so seriously! I never saw the point of wearing anything representing a state, and never wanted to. But now I see how chic it can be and also budget-friendly if you don’t want to take the plunge to buy a designer cap.

I think the reason why the NY hat is the top choice for fashionistas worldwide is because of the placement and design of the letters “NY.” Without looking at it directly, it appears as a symbol rather than letters. It’s design has the element of Trompe l’oeil, (French for, “to fool the eye”). It gives a similar vibe to the Celine logo cap aesthetically. That is what made me choose the NY hat over the LA hat honestly.

As many of you know, I will add in trends to my wardrobe from time to time, as long as I have the ability to mesh it well with a timeless look. I was in a hurry today to get some errands done so I went with an all black look, my navy blue NY cap, and then added my Gucci canvas slingbacks to give an effortless minimalist chic look. And then an honorable mention of my Chanel jumbo handbag. It is probably the oldest handbag in my collection. It was a gift from my parents when I graduated high school in 2009, before the crazy Chanel handbag price spikes.

I forgot to bring my camera while being out and about today. So, this is the best quality picture I have. But, I figured why not share it anyway?
