My favorite outfit when I was 4 years old was a rainbow romper. Every time my mother washed it, I couldn’t wait to wear it. I felt like the day was going to be amazing every time when I wore it. I remember the day I went to go pull it out of my drawer and I couldn’t fit in it anymore. It was a new chapter for me and I said goodbye to it understandably, as I knew I was growing.
Everyone remembers that one outfit they wore when they were young that made them feel good. When did we lose interest in wearing something we love over and over? Well, all the reasons why point to the media and celebrity culture. In the late 2000s when celebrity culture really took off, there started to be an emphasis on being “seen.” While fashion is always fun, there is that snobby and egotistical aspect to it that is always lingering around. Celebrity culture brought it to the forefront for everyone to get on board. And we see it today with social media. It’s made us get so caught up that we lost sight of what really matters.
Fashion is always going to be shallow and materialistic. Nothing will change that. No matter who you are, that’s the gist of fashion. There is nothing wrong with enjoying fashion, but do not let your ego consume you. If your ego consumes you then you will start to have unattainable standards for yourself, which will just in turn make you torture yourself. And I don’t mean ego in a negative manner, no matter what we are always balancing on the tight rope of our egos. We just all have different vices that we face on that tight rope.
For me it’s no longer a “taboo” to wear the same outfit. I do think this is definitely more of a problem we women face more so than men. I say this because there is more pressure on women when it comes to fashion (such as the “dilemma” of arriving to an event and a woman is wearing the same dress as you). Men never think twice about these things because they typically aren’t trained to believe these things make them “less than.” But with women, if we wear the same clothing too often, then comes the gossip and judgmental thoughts. It’s time to change this mindset for ourselves and for other women as well.
I know It’s hard. You know it’s hard. We all want to have that perfect image of ourselves that celebrities portray, but it’s all fake.
Celebrities get everything on loan; houses, cars, jewelry, bags, and clothing. A majority of the clothing they wear it once to be photographed and then send it back to the designer. It’s all PR (public relations) and advertising. Basically celebrity culture nowadays is set up to make everyone feel inferior. And I’ve fallen for it in the past when I was young, but once you figure out the game being played you can’t be tricked anymore. Now I don’t mind outfit repeating. I of course have my own rotation system planned out in my mind to give time in between wearing an outfit, and I won’t wear something again to a similar event so I can change things up. But when it comes to active wear, all bets are off. I outfit repeat it weekly without a care in the world.

Absolutely love your picture! This read was needed for me, I need to keep reminding myself to purchase items that can be recycled and that it’s okay to rewear things!!! Xoxo!!!!
You look stunning! My favorite dress was a pink floral dress that I wanted to wear everywhere. I definitely agree that there should be a more positive mindset to outfit repeating!
Great post 🙂
Despite how beautiful the fashion industry can make life look, it’s sad how a lot of it is just smoke and mirrors to just induce further consumption. I used to agree that outfit repeating was considered tacky, but over the years I’ve learned it shows the mark of a true stylist to be able to style the same garment in a completely way and give a different vibe.
Love the store around this blog 😍
You look absolutely stunning Nadine . I love the choker look with an off shoulder dress or shirt . I used to avoid rewearing the same outfit twice . But now I know it is ok and actually saves us a lot of money .
You are totally correct! Great post!
