For those who didn’t get the reference in the title, it is referring to the anime series, Cowboy Bebop! Anime was a huge part of my life growing up, and this anime series I have held dearly in my heart since I was 11 years old. The first time I watched the series was during the school winter break on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block. You can’t help but feel so heartbroken yet so fulfilled when watching this series. Whether you like anime or not, this one is definitely worth watching.
Anyways! Today’s outfit I actually thought up of in December 2019 (ask my friend, Hadassah. I confided to her my styling idea for this look!) I had seen these exact Isabel Marant boots Im wearing in the pictures on sale at Nordstrom and I wanted them so badly, yet they were out of my size. So, like any rational human, I decided to keep the tab open of the boots and refresh it multiple times a day to see if someone had returned my size so I could promptly purchase them.
Unfortunately, no one returned the boots in my size (though a size 4 and size 7 were returned, so congratulations to those who swiped them up for a steal price).
Fortunately, I was able to find these boots that I loved so much on Farfetched in the recent months. They were on sale so I took the plunge and purchased them! They will definitely be a fun fashion statement to make. No regrets!
I definitely feel like this look has a heavy Saint Laurent vibe. Interestingly enough, a couple of weeks ago I did see a Saint Laurent turban for sale on Nordstrom’s website in a similar color to the one I am wearing (it is a darker hue). So it seems like I sensed the trend months ago before it came!
This ensemble was very much out of my usual looks that I put together. In fact, the western boot itself is something one would say is out of character for me. However, as I have gotten older I am more welcoming to venturing out to new looks and taking fashion risks. I really loved the color of these boots with the darker tip. I felt they have a very classic look to them, and that is right up my alley.
Even though the western boots have a classic look to them, it is not something that can go with any outfit. These boots are a statement piece, so with fashion items like that you need to revolve the outfit around them. This is why I opted for a simple black blazer dress. Despite it’s simplicity, it was able to harmonize with the boots effortlessly.
Conversely, it is possible to group together multiple statement pieces. Such as what I did in this look (the turban, the boots, and the brooch). Lets just say it’s a case-by-case situation. In a future blog post I will go over helpful ways to decipher which statement pieces can go together.
What I like about this look is it has a classic aesthetic while still having a modern twist with an edge to it. It helps to have a short hemline with these boots because the boot length can look overwhelming and bulky on a body. This is especially true for a short woman like myself. This is why I shortened the hemline on this blazer dress to help enhance the look. The space between the hemline and the top of the boot help create a more harmonized look which ultimately is pleasing to the eye.
Lastly, I felt since there was so many statement pieces, that I wanted to pick a bag that was simple and subtle. I found the Topshop bag while browsing Nordstrom online a couple of weeks ago. It has a beautiful silhouette, is faux leather, and most of all, no label. For some outfits, sometimes it is better to pick a bag with no brand labels.

The combination of the look is interesting and chic at the same time; I would’ve not guessed it would go together as well as you did, it is sophisticated and yet simple. You can wear for an evening or a luncheon.
a great job putting this combo together.
You are rocking this outfit! It’s so unique and I would never think to put this together. I love how it’s still very much your classy simple style, but you have a way of making it fun but not loud and obnoxious. That’s something I find hard with following other designers/stylist because to me I can’t envision myself ever being in the outfit. But this outfit is something I desire to try! And I absolutely love the Chanel brooch – very classy touch! Looking forward to more post like this that make me think outside of my style. Thanks for the inspiration, Nadine!
I love your style always, and I love where you find your inspiration! It’s so great that you are able to be so unapologetically you, in who you are, what you wear, and how you allow yourself to be defined or not. Amazing.
