I was never for headbands growing up but recently I came around to enjoy them. The first reason I didn’t like them is that I found them to be uncomfortable to wear, and the second reason is that I was a bit turned off by their look. The first reason I solved by finding headband brands that were made well (see headband brands: Jennifer Behr, and Lele Sadoughi). The second reason, I solved by branching out to cultivate my own style without the influence of others/the media. I think it also helped that headbands became a fashion trend in the recent years which allowed me to take that fashion risk. Typically I wear what I want, but when it comes to accessories like hats and headbands, it took me awhile to get comfortable to take those risks. That’s a part of growing up!
My headband collection has slowly grown over the years, especially bejeweled ones. Historically in Greece and Rome, wreaths (headbands) were worn for special occasions. Many headbands resemble a crown so it makes sense. I like the fact that in fashion you can take something meant for a formal occasion and turn it into a daily thing. Life should be celebrated everyday!
Now regarding perfume, it’s the perfect accessory in any situation. Choosing your scent is so personal. It’s your signature mark, how others will remember you. Perfume is invisible but it has just as much as a lasting impression as the outfit you wear. This goes for both men and women. Though in my opinion the importance of cologne for men is equivalent to the importance of handbags for women: top priority after the outfit.
I’m a bit sensitive so it is a must for me to avoid perfumes with a lot of alcohol and a lot of chemicals in them. That’s why I stick to Jo Malone for my scents. 99% of other brands I end up feeling like I am suffocating. I will say prior to Jo Malone my signature scent was St John By Marie Grey (which has been discontinued). It was my absolute favorite and I was heartbroken when it became discontinued. However, sometimes you need to let go of the old so you can find the beauty in the new.
And lastly!! I did try the Jo Malone body creme and I wasn’t a fan of it. I have sensitive skin and the only thing that works for it is the Japanese brand Yu-Be. So I will be sticking with that!
Ma’aasalaama xoxo
